According to a legend Mary was born and brought up, at original Santa Casa house in Nazareth, Palesine. There she recieved the Annunciation from Archangel Gabriel and gave birth to Christ who spent his Childwood here. The legend further states that, threatened with destruction by the Saracens, Angels transfer the Holy House to the Croatia in the first instance, later to the woods in Italy. From the name of the woods‘ proprietress (Laureta) originates the name of the building.

Behind the Loretto Chapel you can see Pilgrimage Church of the Nativity – the most beautiful original Rococo interiors in Prague. There is a treasury in the complex were the amazing Loreto treasure is exhibited. Is the second most valuable religious treasure in the Czech Republic. Prague Sun (name of the Diamond monstrance), dominance of the treasure, is composed of 6222 diamonds.

Facade of the complex is dominated by tower with the famous carillon. System which is controlled by clock mechanism, plays a Marian song Hail Mary Thousand Times. The carillon is associated with the Prague legend – Prague’s draper was praying to Mary for recovery of his daughter suffering plague, at that time widely devastating desease also known as the Black Death. He promised to donate a generous present to Loreta, if his daugter gets well. As soon as recovered she told him she had a dream about angels carrying bells. The draper donated a carillon as a sign of his gratitude.
